Omron recently announced it has developed a LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel in a clamshell handsets to show images on both main and sub displays. Looking to leverage the booming demand for dual-screen handsets especially in Japan and China, the Japanese company plans to make the technology available to handset makers within one year.

 

Omron's new technology adopts a front-light system with one LCD displaying images on both side of the same screen. This reversible-lighting technology utilizes tiny prisms created on the surface of the light plates to scatter light. Reflection rate of the light guides is also greatly reduced.
